Events I’ve attended

All setup and ready for the Evergreen Arts Festival tomorrow & Sunday. Camping out in the lot at old Albertsons with several other artists. Went to dinner with Jerome & his wife (name escapes me) & Dave at Taco Bell across the lot. Instead if hanging my shower bottle from the back trailer door, helped Dave (who I met at keystone last weekend) put up his new outdoor shower enclosure. It was great fun - you should have heard/seen us. Included a couple of pics…

On to Evergreen…

Thank you to everyone in Keystone for making a successful show! Hope to do some biking, hiking, take a few shots this week then head over to Keystone to wrap up my Colorado tour.

Today I was awarded ‘People’s Choice’ at the Keystone Blues Festival & Art Show! I am very happy to receive this recognition so thanks to everyone who voted for me :)
Often have people tell me I am their favorite artists, but I think this is the first show I remember having an ‘official’ peoples choice award. Got a framed certificate and announced on the main stage. Truly honored as this is the second award this year (1st place photography in Frisco, Texas this Spring). Also congratulations to the runner up, I’ll stop in and see your drawings in the morning. Pretty cool - no judges, just the voice of the people ;)

Studio Mac still in repair, but was able to get most of my printing done thanks to recent back-up of all my print files from the external drive to DVR (Digital Video Recorder) computer. Now I have Photoshop and all that Jazz on this computer, may come in handy. Few more new and Colorado works to work on beginning of next week, but at least restocked.

Look forward to the trip and seeing some of my CO friends! :D

Rockport Summary

Great Weather - breeze kept things cool enough! Good crowds as well. Special thanks to Rachel who bought #1 of ‘Draining Blues’ Saturday - always great to sell a new piece first time out! ;) And of course thanks to everyone who made my artwork part of their lives or gifts for others :)

Also want to give a big big thanks to the 3 gentlemen their family who gave me a hand replacing battery cable brackets in Cuero, Texas in the middle of the night on the way home. Pushed through & was able to get home around 3am & to sleep by 4am.

Well, got into Rockport, Texas around 2:30p this afternoon. Actually the weather from the hurricane is better here than Houston or Austin. Only dry roads we saw were 20 minutes out. Great artists reception tonight - good wine ;) Marcela made the trip with me so will enjoy it much more! :)

Will get on site around 6 am to setup art (left it in trailer just in case something spawns overnight) . Jealous of George B. with his big RV parked ocean-side- one day.

Well gotta get a good nite’s sleep - update y’all later! :D

Come see me in Rockport, Texas for the Rockport Art Festival this weekend! :)

Jamie’s Rig in Round Top Texas Yeh, I like light posts ;)

This Texan is enjoying the relatively cooler weather up here in St. Louis! Really nice weekend and great people and awesome artists Great hanging out with my neighbors and seeing photographers Brian and meeting Todd - great work guys! :)

Great accommodations on the grounds of Eden Seminary a couple minutes (really) walk from my booth! :D

And very very special Thanks to Janice & Asa and everyone who took care of me after after I got wiped out by a kid racing through on a bike. Banged up ribs. Laid out in the aisle for a while, but eventually returned to my booth. Thanks to the patron I was helping for leaving a note- didn’t abandon you guys ;) And I finally heeded, the ‘dont touch that’ and ‘don’t pick that up Jamie!’ Sunday on tear-down. Doc told me to take it easy, so I’m trying…

‘Mean Green..’ made it’s debut on limited edition canvas canvas, getting orders for larger pieces, and pretty much sold out of all my ceramic tile coasters…

Hope to go shoot & hang out in the are with Todd, who’s a local with great personality (& work). Then heading towards Richmond, Virginia to ’see what I can see’…

Join me and other artists in in Kerrville Texas this Memorial Day! :)

I was honored this weekend to receive a ‘First Place’ award for my photographic art at the ‘Arts in the Square’ festival in Frisco Texas this weekend :) Happy to be present with all the wonderful artists there and had a great time despite the rain and audible annoyances ;) Jamie Rood in Booth - Frisco Texas - March 2010

Was able to visit with my old friend Amy and stayed with her and her family in Argyle. You know a life-long friend when, despite not seeing each other for years, they get up at 3:30 am to drive 40 minutes & help you setup in the dark!

Jamie Rood in Booth - Frisco Texas - March 2010Also a special appreciation to my neighbors at the festival and especially good friends Collin Welsch and Bill Stiham (& girlfriend Livy) for the encouragement & hugs. Was great having Bill & Livy setup right beside me and providing me wine, chicken strips and fries and their wonderful personality to brighten my day! :)

Nice weekend with 59 other artists on the beautiful grounds at Laguna Gloria in West-Central Austin. Cool but sunny on Saturday and overcast-drizzly on Sunday. Crowds pretty lite but good clientele :) Especially enjoyed visiting with my neighbors. Thanks to everyone who came out!

Septemberfest in Midland

My second year at Septemberfest, Museum of the Southwest, was great! :D Thanks to everyone who came out and all the wonderful artists. :)

Hanging around Colorado this week to escape the Texas heat and participate in the High Octane Art festival Saturday which is part of the antique car show this weekend. Will display primarily my vehicles and old architechture with some landscapes out. Plan to shoot some of those requests I’ve been recieving so I’ll be reviewing my email list. Be sure to comment if you want me to be on the lookout for anything ;)

Will be staying in Colorado Springs the next couple days then heading back over probly early Thursday morning…

Well, had a great time in Salida this weekend :) Decided to try calling my old friend Anuja (lives in the Springs) one more time - as been trying for about 6 months but she’s been in India and had the phone shut off. Anyway, she finally answered and swung up and picked her up and she helped me all weekend ;)

We were on the street by the food vendors - yet still didn’t eat til later each day as we were pretty busy. Crowd was good on Sat - a little slow on Sunday. Old pickups and architectural were hits, and also sold my newest piece which I debuted:

‘Gorilla Falls - Contemplating the Journey’

- still in Colorado, but will post it as soon as I get back :)

Beatiful out here and cold as hec in the morning (lows get into the 30s still), compared to highs of about 105 in Austin ;)  Look forward to next year! :)

Enjoyed meeting everyone out at the Oasis Restaurant this weekend. I appreciate everyone who withstood the heat to browse my artwork and chat*. Many had seen me at other events around Texas and recognized my from online. I may just have to try it again this weekend since I’ve pretty much decided to wait until August to head back out to Colorado for the Salida show ;)

* Didn’t actually melt Friday at setup and made it through the heat ;) I setup in the back area so I could setup my tent and everything, but that asphalt was brutal.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my both in downtown Frederick, Maryland this past weekend! :)

After a rainy sloshy setup on Friday, the weekend was beauftiful and lots of people out. The festival was setup along the paver-lined canal with nice bridges and flora along the way. - pics later ;)

Especially enjoyed chatting with my neighbors Al (now from Roanoke VA) and Billy from Williamsburg VA. Al has some jazzy one-of-a-kind pices and Billy wonderful African wildlife shots.

Debuted my ‘Early Mooring’ and ‘Montauk Harbor’ pieces taken a couple weeks ago in Montauk New York. These are my first ‘out of Texas’ shots I have displayed :)

Taking some down time today, but hope to shoot some more cool stuff on my way to Chicago, Il for Wells street this weekend.

After a 4 days of driving and my dad & I made it Montauk last Thursday nite. I picked Dad up from my brothers in Richmond, Virginia the day before. We setup on Friday and the show was Sat-Mon (memorial day). Met some neat people including my neighbors Cheryl & Emily and had some great food! :)

Got around to take some shots around the area Monday morning and Tuesday before we left. You can see a preview of some upcoming works by clicking here - Montauk 2009 - Preview.

Montauk Harbor

Wasn’t able to get the second half of my 10×20 tent there so rented a tent which they setup just before opening - the wind took it away from the guys setting it up and it rolled over and damaged a couple canvases :|

Great to setup at the Palmer events Center for the 2009 Plutopia SXSW party where I enjoyed chatting with people about my artwork and reconnecting with creative types I haven’t seen in awhile: Parker, Lanel, Chad, Albert, Sara & more - really great seeing you!

Shame more people didn’t get to participate & enjoy - oh well :)

I will be attending the Art, Book and Craft Fair

presented by
Friends of the Wichita Art Museum

Wichita, Kansas - May 9 & 10

Spent some time in the area a few years ago and been planning to go back to Colorado to escape the Central Texas heat in August :)

Salida Riverside Fine Arts Festival

Salida, Colorado - August 15 & 16

Very pleased to wake up Saturday and see an email they were putting the artists in a large tent instead of us all setting up our tents in thirty mile per hour winds. Actually the winds weren’t quite as bad as I expected but always nice to be under one roof with everyone. One drawback was the tent had red & white stripes, so half my display was red-shifted. Short day - did a small setup, sold some canvases and was home in Austin just after dark :) Organizers were great and saw some artists from the Buda & Salado shows.

Last night I was at Framers Gallery for the ‘First Friday’ event in downtown Georgetown where I met more of the staff and gallery patrons.

As I stated previously in my blog, I had been concerned about being in a gallery and was looking for the right energy for my work. When I met Fred, the gallery owner @ an event, I felt good about it and decided this would be the first gallery I placed my work into. I had had my 3D reliefs in nice retail locations but had not pursued this since I switched to my photography.

The staff, artists and friends of Framers Gallery has been very welcoming & supportive. I get the feeling this is more a family than snooty gallery ;)

The atmosphere is different in the gallery than I experience at art shows and other events. Fortunately I was able to witness my first canvas sales at the gallery and interact with the patrons who bought my work :) I love making that connection, and one thing I want to work on is to provide information cards for those who purchase online or in galleries when I’m not present. Had done this before but wasn’t quite happy with the result.  I’m now in a better position through experience and making it a priority.

To everyone I met last night thanks for the conversation and look forward to seeing you again soon :)

This week I delivered 18 works on canvas to Framers Gallery at 610 S. Main in downtown Georgetown. The works will be on display throughout the month and I will be there Friday evening Feb 6 from 6:30p-9p for the ‘First Friday’ event they have downtown.
